We’ve had two great Star Wars games this year, probably because Lucasfilm Games says it’s now “more flexible” about who it takes pitches from

Eurogamer ·

Lucasfilm Games says it is more open to pitches from different developers and publishers, a shift reflected in two well-received Star Wars games released this year by independent studios. The change could broaden the kinds of games made under the licence and increase the pace of releases after years when a single publisher held exclusive rights.

Lucasfilm Games executive Douglas Reilly said the company still applies a high quality bar and often works with experienced teams, but a developer need not be among the biggest publishers to make a successful game. He said future projects could come from unexpected partnerships, though few games are currently confirmed: Star Wars Eclipse, a third Star Wars Jedi game, Fate of the Old Republic and the Knights of the Old Republic remake.

  • Two acclaimed games this year came from independent studios.
  • The company says quality matters more than publisher size.
