Alice Ruggles’s family says killer sought to serve sentence in India
Alice Ruggles’s family says her killer, former soldier Trimaan “Harry” Dhillon, sought to serve his life sentence in India. They say they were not told about the transfer request until it had been approved and feared he could threaten them if released early; the case has renewed attention on the risks of stalking.
Ruggles, 24, was murdered at her Gateshead home in October 2016 after Dhillon stalked and harassed her following their separation. He was convicted in 2017 and given a minimum term of 22 years. Her parents say he has shown no remorse, and were relieved when the transfer was rejected in June 2023; the government says applications consider the offence, sentence and victims’ concerns.
