AI Cloning Could Become the Biggest Threat to Video Game Playtests

Polygon ·

Digital Sun has scaled back a planned public playtest for its upcoming game ReVamp, citing fears that a widely shared build could be reverse-engineered and cloned using AI tools. The decision matters because playtests help small studios build interest, but releasing the game early may expose their work to imitation before launch.

The studio will instead run a smaller playtest through its Discord from 29 October, without guaranteeing that everyone who wants access can join. It hopes to open the test to the public around January, ahead of ReVamp’s planned 25 March release, if it believes it can stay ahead of potential clones. The game casts players as Dracula, defending and shaping his castle against invaders.
