Football Daily | Kulusevski and Maddison return to form but are Tottenham also back?

The Guardian ·

Tottenham beat Coventry for their first league win of the season, moving off the bottom of the table to 16th. The victory came as Dejan Kulusevski returned after 526 days away and James Maddison scored on his comeback, raising hopes that Roberto De Zerbi can lift a club that has endured a run of managerial upheaval and poor results.

Ben Davies scored a deflected late winner, while Maddison opened the scoring with a curling shot. Since Kulusevski last appeared for Spurs in May 2025, the club have appointed and dismissed Thomas Frank and Igor Tudor before giving De Zerbi greater control; they have also signed 20 players permanently or on loan for a reported £530 million. De Zerbi said a Marbella break helped the squad feel more like a family, but Tottenham’s win leaves them only 16th.
