WGA East Is Trying To Help Writers Make Their Work “Unreadable” To AI Models

Deadline ·

The Writers Guild of America East is giving members free access to Cloak, software designed to make scripts harder for AI models to analyse, scrape or use for training while keeping their formatting intact. The initiative aims to help writers protect their work when sharing it with industry contacts.

Non-members can use Cloak for $10 through the guild’s script registration service, which is open to all writers. WGA East President Tom Fontana said the partnership addresses concerns about scripts being used to train AI or reduced to AI-generated summaries; the guild is also pursuing protections through contracts, legislation and member education.
