Microsoft reportedly plans Xbox handheld in 2027, next-gen console in 2028
Microsoft is reportedly planning an Xbox handheld for the 2027 holiday season, followed by its next-generation console, Project Helix, in 2028. The plans suggest Xbox may expand into a family of devices, though it remains unclear whether Microsoft or a partner such as Asus would make the handheld.
The report says Microsoft projects Project Helix could cost consumers between $1,200 and $1,800 unless it subsidises the hardware. Xbox is also reportedly considering Game Pass add-ons for console games, cloud gaming and multiplayer, while details on pricing and day-one releases remain unclear. The report further says Xbox CEO Asha Sharma is planning another round of layoffs this month, with more expected in November and January.
