Passers-by form human chain to rescue dog from Manchester canal

Daily Mail ·

A dog named Sumak fell into a canal in Ancoats, Manchester, while being walked by Batu Akyol, who kept the animal’s head above water with its lead but could not pull it up the steep, slippery wall. Six passers-by, including two students leaving a nearby coffee shop, joined forces to rescue the dog.

One man was lowered head-first down the canal wall while the others held onto his feet, forming a human chain. He reached Sumak’s collar and lifted the dog most of the way before the group helped carry it over the final section. The incident happened on 12 September.
