The 1980 song Bob Mould wants played at his funeral
Bob Mould has chosen Joy Division’s “Love Will Tear Us Apart” as the song he wants played at his funeral. The choice links the Hüsker Dü musician to a song whose release followed Ian Curtis’s death, and reflects how strongly Mould feels about the original recording.
Mould recalled that Hüsker Dü were due to open for Joy Division in Minneapolis in 1980, but Curtis died on the eve of the tour. Released as a single the following month, “Love Will Tear Us Apart” later sold more than 1.2 million copies in the UK and went double platinum. Mould said he loses his mind when he hears an unusual cover, adding that some songs should not be touched.
