How often you SHOULD be winning a Premium Bond prize: We crunch the numbers to reveal the luckiest regions

Daily Mail ·

Analysis of NS&I data shows that Premium Bond prize wins vary between areas, even after accounting for how much residents hold. The figures compare prizes of £1,000 or more and rank locations by how often they win, while illustrating that a higher bond balance gives an individual a better chance of receiving a prize.

Around 22 million people hold Premium Bonds, with an average holding of £6,029 and about 1.4 million people at the £50,000 maximum. A maximum holding has a 90.8 per cent chance of winning any prize in a month, compared with 37.9 per cent for £10,000 and roughly one in 210 for £100. Small holdings can still win large prizes: recent examples include £100,000 from £350 and £25,000 from £50.

  • NS&I data ranks areas by larger Premium Bond wins.
  • Prize chances rise with the amount held.
  • Small holdings can still win substantial prizes.
