Khvicha Kvaratskhelia sustains ACL rupture in most serious of three PSG injuries
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during Paris Saint-Germain’s 4-2 Champions League win over Barcelona and will undergo surgery. The injury is a major setback for PSG, where the Georgian winger has been central to successive Champions League titles, and comes shortly before the Ballon d’Or is awarded, for which he is a contender.
Kvaratskhelia was injured while sprinting back to make a tackle and had to leave the pitch before the hour, unable to put weight on his leg. PSG also lost Ousmane Dembélé and Marquinhos to thigh injuries; the club said both would receive treatment over the next few weeks. Separately, Barcelona complained to Uefa about a banner depicting a masked PSG supporter cutting through the club’s crest with a chainsaw, as well as offensive chants.
