Philly officer murdered in line of duty promoted to sergeant as police from around US attend his funeral

Fox News ·

Thousands of police officers from across the United States attended the funeral of Philadelphia officer Shane Seiber, who was killed in the line of duty on 10 October. During the service, Police Commissioner Kevin J. Bethel announced Seiber’s posthumous promotion to sergeant, while Mayor Cherelle L. Parker said the city would establish an annual public service internship in his honour.

Prosecutors say Seiber and his partner were responding to a report of a man waving a gun when Eric Lewis approached them, and that an argument and struggle preceded the shooting. Seiber was shot three times and died; his partner, Officer Hector Rodriguez III, was shot 12 times and survived. Seiber served 10 years in the Philadelphia Police Department after two decades in the Air Force, including two tours in Iraq; he leaves a wife and two young children.
