OneDrive to raise Mac sync limit to one million items

The Register ·

Microsoft plans to raise OneDrive’s supported sync limit on eligible Macs from 300,000 to one million items, matching Windows. The change is intended to help organisations with large OneDrive and SharePoint libraries keep more content in sync across devices; a preview is scheduled for October, with general availability targeted for June 2027.

Devices must meet Microsoft’s hardware and configuration requirements, while others will retain the 300,000-item limit. Sync may still slow down with many read-only files or accounts under legal hold. Other announced features include Copilot tools for analysing files and organising folders, Hero Links that keep one URL as permissions change, and a command-line tool for administrators to inspect sync status and diagnose issues.
