“I Don’t Know How to Be Any Other Way”: Linda Perry Reveals How She Channeled Honesty in Her Documentary and Its Companion Album (Exclusive)
Linda Perry says honesty shaped her documentary, *Linda Perry: Let It Die Here*, and its companion album, which she says would not have been made without the film. The project matters to her because it let audiences see the emotional struggles behind her creative work, including moments she would normally keep private.
Directed by Don Hardy, the documentary premiered at the Tribeca Festival in 2024 and was later released widely and on Hulu; Perry’s companion album followed. After her mother died, Perry invited Hardy to film a jam session with a five-piece band, six string players and two backing singers. A song emerged during the session and was written in four hours.
