Man forced to sell beloved Lotus car following divorce buys it back 35 years later after spotting it on eBay

Motor mechanic David Reynolds has bought back his yellow 1972 Lotus Europa, 35 years after selling it during his divorce. He spotted the car listed on eBay after recognising distinctive changes he had made, and says its return has reunited him with a car he considers his pride and joy.

Reynolds bought the Lotus second hand for £750 in 1980 and sold it for £4,000 in 1991 to help keep his house. He paid £16,080 to reclaim it from its latest owner in Sheffield, identifying it through black coachlines, a piece of wood around the radio and, finally, its number plate. He plans to restore it and use it for special occasions.
