‘Wicker’ Is Less Explicit Than You May Be Expecting: “This Is a Movie to Watch With Your Mom”

The Hollywood Reporter ·

At the Los Angeles premiere of *Wicker*, its filmmakers and stars said the film is less explicit than its suggestive trailer and online discussion might imply. Writers and directors Eleanor Wilson and Alex Huston Fischer described it as mostly funny and suitable to watch with parents, while Olivia Colman said audiences’ imaginations are dirtier than what appears on screen.

The R-rated film follows an ostracised fisherwoman, played by Colman, who commissions a basketmaker to weave her a husband, played by Alexander Skarsgård. Skarsgård wore a suit made by Wētā Workshop, and Colman also produced the film. A one-night-only 4DX screening is scheduled for 28 October, with the filmmakers helping shape effects including a small water splash during a scene involving a bucket of urine.
