Ex-England defender Bertrand eyes £87m AFC Wimbledon deal
Former England defender Ryan Bertrand is leading a consortium proposing an £87m investment in AFC Wimbledon, which plays in League One. The deal would bring substantial funding to the club while aiming to preserve the supporters’ control that has shaped its identity.
The consortium’s funder, British technology expert Omar Mir, would invest £16m for a 34% stake in the company running the club, with a further £71m paid over five seasons to 2030-31. The Dons Trust would retain its majority of voting rights, control of the stadium freehold and vetoes over the club’s name, badge, colours, ground and constitution. Members must vote by 17 November; the Trust board recommends approval.
