Most French people AGREE with Trump that migration is to blame for far-left riots, poll finds after Macron slammed his ‘stupid comments’
A CSA Institute poll found that 55 per cent of French respondents believe migration is linked to the violent protests in France, backing a claim made by US President Donald Trump. The result matters amid a dispute with President Emmanuel Macron, who rejected the claim and accused foreign leaders of repeating misleading narratives about the unrest.
Thirty-five per cent of respondents said they did not see a link, while 10 per cent gave no opinion. The protests, driven by anger over living costs and rising fuel prices, have involved clashes with police, looting and fires; authorities banned planned demonstrations in Paris, Lyon, Lille and Grenoble and imposed curfews in some areas.
In short
- 55 per cent of respondents linked migration to the unrest.
- Macron rejected Trump’s claim as false.
- Authorities banned demonstrations in four cities.
