Following shock BioWare closure, scope of EA job cuts becomes clear as layoffs hit Respawn, Maxis, Full Circle, EA Motive, and more

Eurogamer ·

EA’s latest cuts will affect staff across Maxis, Ripple Effect, Respawn, EA Motive, Full Circle and BioWare, bringing the total number of roles being eliminated across the publisher to 400. The spread of the layoffs matters because some affected studios were described by EA as priorities for investment, including Respawn and EA Motive.

EA confirmed 50 affected workers at BioWare and said Ripple Effect was being downsized, but did not initially identify the other cuts. Departures shared on LinkedIn indicate staff at the named studios are affected; EA also paused its unannounced Sims project Project Lotus to focus on Project Evergreen. The cuts are the first since EA’s $55 billion acquisition by a consortium, after the company told debt investors it planned $700 million in annual cost reductions.

In short

  • EA is eliminating 400 roles across its studios.
  • LinkedIn posts indicate cuts at six studios.
  • EA had pledged major investment in some affected teams.
