October’s full Hunter’s Moon to light up night sky this weekend

BBC Science ·

October’s Hunter’s Moon will be visible across the UK from Sunday evening into Monday morning, with a second chance to see it on Monday night. It is the 11th of 13 full Moons in 2026 and the last before four consecutive supermoons, making it a notable point in the lunar calendar.

The Moon rises in the east shortly after 16:00 GMT on Sunday and is officially full at 04:11 GMT on Monday; set times vary by location. It may look orange or red near the horizon, while the Orionid meteor shower is also still active, though moonlight could make meteors harder to spot. Viewing prospects are best in much of the UK early on Sunday night, but rain, wind and cloud may affect parts of Scotland and north-west England.

In short

  • The Hunter’s Moon is visible from Sunday evening into Monday.
  • It is the final full Moon before four consecutive supermoons.
  • Cloud and rain may limit views in parts of the UK.
