Cinépolis Distribution Lands ‘5 More Minutes,’ a Time-Warping Thriller Starring ‘Talk to Her’ Lead Javier Cámara (EXCLUSIVE)

Variety ·

Cinépolis Distribution has secured Latin American rights to the Spanish thriller “5 More Minutes”, starring Javier Cámara, in a rare expansion beyond its usual focus on Mexican rights. The move reflects the exhibitor’s effort to broaden its film slate and rebuild audiences for Mexican cinema, whose theatrical market share has fallen well below pre-pandemic levels.

The film, written by and starring Berto Romero and directed by Javier Ruiz Caldera, is scheduled for release on 28 January next year. Cinépolis aims to distribute 12 Mexican films annually, while local productions currently account for just 3% to 4% of the market, compared with about 10% before the pandemic. The company operates 6,853 screens and reported 256.4 million admissions in 2025, despite opening around 60 to 70 screens worldwide each year, down from an average of 300 before COVID-19.
