MoreThan Films Picks Up ‘Salen las lobas’ Ahead of Valladolid World Premiere
MoreThan Films has acquired international sales rights to Spanish coming-of-age drama “Salen las lobas” ahead of its world premiere at the Valladolid Film Festival on 25 October. The feature debut of Claudia Estrada Tarascó, it follows teenage girls in detention who form a bond through music, bringing a story rooted in lived experience to international buyers and audiences.
The Spain-Belgium-Denmark co-production draws on the experience of Estrada’s sister, who entered juvenile justice at 14; the director researched girls’ experiences and legal proceedings for four years. Her sister plays Luna, alongside a largely non-professional cast, and the film’s original songs were written and performed by its protagonists. It is the first feature from producer Alba Sotorra’s new Oceanika banner, and is due for Spanish theatrical release on 11 December.
