Size Really Does Matter: How Alexander Skarsgard’s ‘Wicker’ Man and Member Came to Life
Alexander Skarsgård’s wicker character in *Wicker* drew attention online for his physique and a glimpse of nudity, but that detail nearly did not make it into the film. Costume designers say the directors proposed the idea just a week before filming, and chose to show only a distant view of the character naked.
Wētā Workshop spent a year with 50 people building the upper half of the wicker costume. With only a week and four workshop staff to complete the lower half, designers used heat-treated printed textile, then hand-painted it to match the prosthetics. They also made the character’s clothes deliberately short to emphasise his size.
In short
- Skarsgård’s wicker nudity was added shortly before filming.
- Four costume staff made the lower half in one week.
- The directors chose to show only a distant glimpse.
