Factorio’s final major update has rolled off the assembly line, adding “the things we wanted to do for 2.0 but didn’t have time for”

Rock Paper Shotgun ·

Factorio has released version 2.1 on its stable branch, which Wube Software describes as the game’s final major update. It adds more than 30 quality of life improvements and small features, including changes originally planned for version 2.0 but left out for lack of time.

The update lets rockets carry mixed cargo, makes asteroid damage more predictable and allows land mines to act as tripwires or enemy detectors. Players can also disable the Quality mechanic in the Space Age expansion, flip pumpjacks and burner miners, and see refreshed graphics and models. Wube says it will continue providing bug fixes and support updates while turning to other game prototypes and experiments.

In short

  • Factorio’s final major update, version 2.1, is now on the stable branch.
  • It adds more than 30 small features and quality of life improvements.
  • Wube will continue bug fixes and support updates.

Explained simply

Factorio is a construction and strategy game made by Wube Software, in which players build and manage factories, transport networks and production lines. Its Space Age expansion adds space travel, including rockets that carry supplies and encounters with asteroids.

Wube Software is the studio behind the game, and players can choose how to use many of its systems as they design and expand their factories. Quality is an optional mechanic in Space Age that gives items different quality levels.

A major update can change how players build and plan, while smaller improvements can make familiar tasks easier. Wube says it will continue fixing bugs and supporting the game as it works on other projects.
