Explained simply

Seminci is Valladolid’s annual international film festival, founded in 1956. It presents films from Spain and abroad, with a competition in which directors’ work is considered for the Golden Spike, its top award.

The festival’s programme brings together established filmmakers and emerging Spanish talent. Its interim co-directors, Mariona Viader and Javier H. Estrada, are continuing the approach of José Luis Cienfuegos, who led the festival before his death in December.

The films explore subjects such as political upheaval, memory, exile and family relationships. This gives audiences a chance to encounter different national and personal perspectives, while the festival provides a platform for filmmakers to show their work.
