John Mayer Wants To Run Away With You on First Single in Five Years, ‘Tom and Jerry’: Stream It Now
John Mayer has released “Tom and Jerry”, his first solo single in more than five years. The midtempo song portrays a one-sided, uncertain romance and marks the start of his new deal with Mercury Records, making it his first release for his Sob Rock Records imprint.
Mayer said the title came from the name he gave an early voice memo of the song. He co-wrote and co-produced it with Blake Slatkin, with contributions from bassist Pino Palladino, drummer Aaron Sterling, percussionist Lenny Castro and pianist Larry Goldings. It is his first solo release since 2021’s *Sob Rock*, which reached No. 2 on the Billboard 200; Mayer is also due to begin a 21-show residency at Las Vegas’ Sphere on 8 April.
