Explained simply

A murder charge means the case will be decided by the courts; it does not establish that the accused is guilty. The accused is entitled to a fair hearing, and evidence will be considered through the legal process.

Police investigate suspected crimes by gathering evidence, speaking to witnesses and carrying out forensic searches. While proceedings are under way, public speculation can affect people connected to the case and risks prejudicing a trial.
