Explained simply

Muhammad Ali was one of boxing’s most prominent heavyweight champions and became a figure in public life beyond sport. Born Cassius Clay, he adopted the name Muhammad Ali in the 1960s.

Sonny Liston was the heavyweight champion when Ali first challenged him. Ali’s Olympic gold medal in Rome in 1960 and his early professional fights helped establish his reputation. Boxing series often draw comparisons with the Rocky films, which follow a fictional boxer, but Ali’s story is about a real athlete.
