Ouattara earns Brentford a draw as Hull extend unbeaten home run

The Guardian ·

Hull and Brentford drew 1-1 at the MKM Stadium, leaving Hull’s unbeaten home run intact but extending their winless spell to seven matches. Brentford recovered from conceding a penalty to earn a point, while both sides kept their unbeaten records in their respective home and away form.

Oli McBurnie put Hull ahead from the spot in the 24th minute, scoring his first Premier League goal in more than 900 days after Aaron Hickey fouled Tim Iroegbunam. Dango Ouattara equalised in the 63rd minute, finishing Igor Thiago’s pass after Hull’s defence failed to close him down. Both teams had further chances, but Mohamed-Ali Cho’s late cross led to an off-target Joe Gelhardt shot, and neither side found a winner.

In short

  • Hull remain unbeaten at home but have gone seven games without a win.
  • McBurnie scored his first Premier League goal in over 900 days.
  • Ouattara equalised for Brentford in the 63rd minute.

Explained simply

Hull City are a football club from Kingston upon Hull, while Brentford are based in west London; both compete in the Premier League, England’s top division. The MKM Stadium is Hull’s home ground, and a run of home matches without defeat can continue even when a team does not win.

A penalty is awarded when a player commits certain fouls inside their own penalty area, giving the other team a direct shot at goal. Oli McBurnie and Dango Ouattara scored for Hull and Brentford respectively, so each side took a point; the result also kept Hull’s home unbeaten run and Brentford’s away unbeaten record going.
