Jarman claims historic second silver at Worlds
Jake Jarman won silver in the men’s vault at the World Gymnastics Championships, becoming the first British male gymnast to win two individual medals at a single edition. In the women’s floor final, Britain’s Abigail Martin scored 13.466 and placed fourth after losing the execution-score tie-break for bronze to France’s Maiana Prat.

Explained simply
The World Gymnastics Championships are a major international competition where gymnasts compete for their countries in team events and individual events on different apparatus, such as the floor and vault. Vault is a short event in which gymnasts run, spring from a board and perform a series of moves in the air before landing.
Jake Jarman represents Great Britain and competes in several parts of the championships, including team and all-around events as well as individual apparatus finals. Medals are decided by judges’ scores for the difficulty and execution of each routine, with tie-break rules used when scores are level.
A medal at the championships adds to a gymnast’s standing in the sport and helps show how British competitors compare with those from other countries. The event also includes separate competitions for women, where athletes such as Abigail Martin compete on apparatus including the floor.
