Siena photo awards showcase wildlife, conflict and everyday life in 2026

The Guardian ·

The 2026 Siena International Photo Awards are presented through images spanning wildlife, street life, conservation and human stories. The selection shows how photography can capture both striking moments in nature and the ways people live with history, conflict and changing environments.

Featured work includes Jasper Doest’s story of rescued flamingo Bob and his bond with a caregiver, and Pierpaolo Mittica’s exploration of life in the Chornobyl exclusion zone, 40 years after the disaster. Other images document women affected by war in Eritrea and Tigray, daily commerce near Varanasi’s Ganges ghats, hunting gannets at Bass Rock, and a young Mundari herder in South Sudan; several photographs are identified as highly commended or prize-winning.

In short

  • The awards feature images of wildlife, people and places.
  • Stories range from Chornobyl to rescued flamingo Bob.
