Explained simply
Harry Potter is a fantasy story about a boy who discovers he is a wizard and attends Hogwarts, a school for magic. The first season follows the events of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, where he begins to learn about his family and the wider wizarding world.
The Weasleys are a large wizarding family, and Ron is one of Harry’s closest friends at Hogwarts. Charlie is Ron’s older brother, known in the books for working with dragons; James and Lily are Harry’s parents, whose past is central to the story.
The series is a new television adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s books, following earlier film versions. Its choices about which characters and events to include can differ from those films, while the story draws on the same fictional world.
