England out of tri-series after Sri Lanka beat Pakistan

BBC Sport ·

Sri Lanka’s emphatic win over Pakistan in Lahore has eliminated England from the one-day international tri-series, before England play their final match on Thursday. England had needed Pakistan to beat Sri Lanka to keep alive their chance of reaching Saturday’s final, so Thursday’s game is now a dead rubber.

Pakistan were bowled out for 110 in 25.2 overs, with Babar Azam top-scoring on 29 and Dilshan Madushanka taking 5-34. Sri Lanka reached 114-2 in 18.1 overs, led by Kamindu Mendis’s unbeaten 62 from 60 balls. England’s three defeats are a setback after a stronger run of ODI results this year; they travel to Australia next for three ODIs and five T20s, starting on 13 November.

In short

  • Sri Lanka’s win over Pakistan knocked England out.
  • Pakistan were dismissed for 110.
  • Kamindu Mendis made an unbeaten 62.
