Leaked Mass Effect 5 trailer is being “re-scored” by one of the original trilogy’s composers, so folks can get a taste of his musical vision for the game

Rock Paper Shotgun ·

Sam Hulick, a composer on the original Mass Effect trilogy, is re-scoring the leaked Mass Effect Universe trailer. He hopes to release it for N7 Day, offering fans a sense of his musical vision for the planned game after its cancellation.

Hulick says he has started the project as a form of closure, but is busy pitching for a new game and does not want to rush it. His interpretation will join music by Austin Wintory, who has released tracks developed while discussing a possible soundtrack for the fifth game. Hulick also noted that reviving the series through an IP licence would not address the job losses at BioWare unless the team were rehired.

In short

  • Sam Hulick is re-scoring the leaked Mass Effect Universe trailer.
  • He hopes to release it for N7 Day.
  • Austin Wintory has also shared music linked to the cancelled game.

Explained simply

Mass Effect is a science-fiction role-playing game series made by BioWare, following a human commander and a crew navigating conflicts across the galaxy. Sam Hulick composed music for the original trilogy, and N7 Day, held on 7 November, is an annual celebration for the series.

The next game has been planned but has not been released, and composers Austin Wintory and Hulick have each shared music connected to discussions about its possible soundtrack. BioWare has also faced job losses; Hulick has said that licensing the series to another company would not itself restore those jobs unless the team were rehired.
