No Man’s Sky Goes Full Horror in New ‘Forsaken’ Update

Polygon ·

Hello Games has released Forsaken, the free 7.10 update for No Man’s Sky, adding horror-themed exploration and rewards. It gives players new reasons to visit dangerous wrecks and infested locations, while continuing the game’s steady expansion more than a decade after launch.

Players can scavenge haunted technology and biological horrors from derelict hulks, abandoned freighters, planetary dig sites and infested outposts, then trade finds for biomechanical corvette parts, new ship interiors, weapons and suits. The update also adds direct travel to nearby stars, delivery missions, weapon selection and a minimal HUD. The game’s iPhone and iPad version is out too, with a free opening section for iPhone 11 and newer; Forsaken is the fifth major update in the game’s 10th anniversary year.

In short

  • Forsaken adds horror-themed scavenging to No Man’s Sky.
  • Finds can be traded for biomechanical ship parts and other gear.
  • The update arrives alongside the iPhone and iPad version.

Explained simply

No Man’s Sky is a science-fiction exploration game from British studio Hello Games, first released in 2016. Players travel between planets and star systems, gathering resources, building bases and upgrading spacecraft in a vast universe generated by the game.

Hello Games has continued to expand the game through free updates, adding activities and features over time. Its anniversary year has brought several major updates, and the game is also available on mobile devices, including iPhone and iPad.

The game’s derelict ships and infested sites offer a more dangerous kind of exploration than its open-ended travel and building activities. New content in these areas can give players further goals and equipment to pursue, while the ongoing updates keep the long-running game changing.
