Peter Farrelly’s ‘I Play Rocky’ To Open Cairo International Film Festival

Deadline ·

Peter Farrelly’s *I Play Rocky*, about the making of the 1976 film *Rocky*, will open the Cairo International Film Festival in November. The choice links the film’s story of perseverance in filmmaking with the festival’s 50th anniversary, as both began in 1976.

Anthony Ippolito plays a young Sylvester Stallone, who tries to get *Rocky* made while keeping the lead role for himself. The film premiered at Toronto in September, where it was runner-up for the People’s Choice Award, and has since won audience awards at festivals in Vancouver and Sudbury. Cairo’s 47th edition runs from 11 to 20 November.
