The trailer shows director Michael Bay and actor Benedict Cumberbatch struggling to respond to her odd questions as she explores cinema’s origins and development.
The series features 23 film experts, including composer Daniel Pemberton, filmmaker Mark Cousins and cinematographer Seamus McGarvey. It ranges from the invention of the movie camera to the use of artificial intelligence in filmmaking, and is due to debut on 15 November. Netflix will stream it outside the UK and Ireland; the BBC is also involved in the production.

Explained simply
Mockumentaries use the style of factual documentaries while inventing comic situations. Philomena Cunk, played by Diane Morgan, is a deliberately ill-informed interviewer whose questions expose the gap between serious explanations and everyday assumptions.
Cinema has developed from early moving pictures to today’s digital filmmaking, and its history involves directors, actors, writers and technical specialists. The series brings together film-makers and experts to explore that history, including newer tools such as artificial intelligence.
