Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding Anime Looks Impressive in First Official Trailer
Developing story first seen 3 hours ago
Newly released footage gives a first look at *Death Stranding Isolations*, an anime set in Hideo Kojima’s game universe, with new protagonists and a story distinct from the two games. The series is expected to arrive exclusively on Disney Plus in 2027, expanding the franchise while a third game remains at the concept stage.
The 30 October trailer shows a blonde girl haunted by visions of Beached Things, the souls of the dead stranded among the living. The subtitle, “My mom became a crater”, refers to voidouts, massive explosions caused when a BT consumes a human. E&H Production is animating the series, directed by Takyuki Sano and written by Tow Ubukata; other projects in development include an A24 prequel film and an animated feature provisionally called *Death Stranding Mosquito*.

Explained simply
Death Stranding is a video-game series created by Japanese game designer Hideo Kojima. Its story takes place in a world where a disaster has disrupted life and left people living apart; couriers carry supplies between isolated communities.
The games feature Beached Things, or BTs: beings linked to the dead that can appear among the living. Contact between a BT and a person can cause a voidout, a destructive explosion that leaves a crater. The series explores how people try to reconnect in the aftermath of these events.
Kojima’s first two games follow different characters and stories within this setting. The planned anime is another story in the same universe, while a third game has been discussed only as a concept.
