“I said, ‘I wrote that song in 10 minutes!’ He replied, ‘Imagine how good it would have been if you took 15!’” How Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor snuck an obscure metal track into a Hollywood blockbuster

Trent Reznor helped bring an obscure track by Swedish metal band Khoma to a much wider audience by including it in the soundtrack to David Fincher’s 2011 film *The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo*. The song, “One of the Tides”, appears during a key scene, giving the band’s music an unexpected place in a major Hollywood production.

Khoma guitarist Johannes Persson said Reznor discovered the band while researching music for the film and chose the track. Persson recalled that Reznor praised the song but joked it might have been even better if he had spent longer writing it. Khoma formed from members of Cult of Luna and other Swedish bands, and “One of the Tides” was released on their 2006 album *The Second Wave*.
