‘Star Wars Fate of the Galaxy’ Officially Released for Free
A volunteer team has released Fate of the Galaxy, a free Star Wars space combat game after nearly 20 years of development. Built as a total conversion mod using the open-source FreeSpace 2 engine, it offers fans a new way to experience starfighter combat across the galaxy.
The game is available for Linux, Mac and PC, with interconnected story campaigns, dynamic campaigns, training and arcade modes, standalone missions and LAN multiplayer. Players can choose to fly for the Rebel Alliance, the Galactic Empire or independently, and select from more than 64 ships with working cockpits and customisable weapons. It also includes a mission editor, adjustable difficulty and settings, varied input support and VR compatibility; its creators say all assets were made by humans.
