My Chemical Romance’s Gerard Way reveals plans to make new album in 2027 and return to touring in 2028
Gerard Way said My Chemical Romance hope to make a new album in 2027 and return to performing in 2028. The comments, made during the band’s Halloween weekend concerts at the Hollywood Bowl, suggest they may set aside next year for recording.
The album would be their first since 2010’s *Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys*. The band split in 2013, reunited in 2019 and have released one new song since then, “The Foundations Of Decay” (2022); Way has previously said they wanted to make more music but that the death of producer Doug McKean and other circumstances disrupted plans. The Hollywood Bowl shows also featured a reunion onstage with The Used’s Bert McCracken, and the band’s *The Black Parade* reached number one in the UK for the first time, 20 years after its original release.
In short
- MCR hope to record a new album in 2027.
- Gerard Way hinted at a return to touring in 2028.
- Their first album since 2010 would be their fifth studio record.
Explained simply

The band split up in 2013 and reunited in 2019. Their last studio album was Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys, released in 2010; since reuniting, they have put out one new song, “The Foundations Of Decay”.
