Explained simply

Godzilla is a long-running Japanese film monster, often used in stories about people rebuilding after catastrophe. Godzilla Minus One followed Koichi, a former wartime pilot, and Noriko as they tried to make a life in a devastated Japan; it became a major success at home and won an Academy Award for its visual effects.

Godzilla Minus Zero continues their story around two years later, with the couple and their young daughter Akiko facing the monster again. Actors Kamiki Ryunosuke and Hamabe Minami return, alongside child actor Nagatani Sae. Director Yamazaki Takashi also led the previous film, whose international success has drawn attention to the sequel.
