Tribe unable to join England Lions after trip to Ebola-hit Kenya

BBC Sport ·

Asa Tribe has been unable to join England Lions in Saint Kitts and Nevis after playing for Jersey in Nairobi, Kenya, in late October. The hosts’ entry restrictions linked to an Ebola outbreak in Kenya prevented his admission, disrupting his Lions call-up for matches against West Indies A.

Saint Kitts and Nevis currently bars non-nationals who have been in Kenya within the previous 21 days, according to the England and Wales Cricket Board, which said Tribe had returned to the UK and it was contacting authorities. Tribe made 940 runs in 14 matches for Glamorgan in the 2026 County Championship. England Lions won the opening T20 by eight wickets, bowling West Indies A out for 98 before reaching 101-2 in 10.1 overs.

In short

  • Asa Tribe missed the England Lions trip after playing in Kenya.
  • Saint Kitts and Nevis has a 21-day entry restriction.
  • England Lions beat West Indies A by eight wickets.

Explained simply

England Lions is the England and Wales Cricket Board’s development team, which gives emerging players experience against strong opposition. West Indies A is a similar second team for the West Indies, and the sides are playing matches in Saint Kitts and Nevis, a Caribbean country.

Asa Tribe is a Jersey international who plays county cricket for Glamorgan. A county championship is England and Wales’s main domestic first-class cricket competition; Tribe scored 940 runs for Glamorgan in 2026. Jersey is a small island in the Channel Islands and has its own cricket team.

Travel restrictions can affect who is able to take part in international sport. Saint Kitts and Nevis has rules for travellers who have recently been in Kenya, where an Ebola outbreak has been reported, so a player’s recent match schedule can have consequences beyond the field.
