A 37-year-old man was arrested after allegedly threatening a group of people with a samurai sword at Little Bay Beach in Sydney’s east on Sunday. No injuries were reported, and police charged him with offences relating to being armed with intent and possessing offensive implements in public.

Police were called to Malabar at about 2.25pm after reports of a suspicious man seen walking on coastal rocks. He had allegedly left before officers arrived, prompting a search involving specialist police units; he was arrested nearby on Mayo Street. Officers seized several edged weapons from him and found a samurai sword hidden in bushes. He was refused police bail and was due before a court on Monday.
