Which Samsung S Pens can be located using SmartThings Find?

Engadget ·

Samsung’s Galaxy S26 Ultra can warn owners when its S Pen has been left out of its slot, but the warning does not show where the pen is. Samsung officially supports location tracking through SmartThings Find for only one model: the separately sold S Pen Pro.

The rechargeable S Pen Pro costs $100 and works with selected Galaxy phones, including the Note 10 and 20 series, Galaxy S21 Ultra to S26 Ultra, and Z Fold 4 to Z Fold 6. Other S Pens are not trackable through SmartThings Find, even if they have Bluetooth. To locate the Pro, users must pair it, enable Offline finding in SmartThings settings, then refresh its location; nearby participating Galaxy devices can anonymously relay its signal.

In short

  • Only the S Pen Pro works with SmartThings Find.
  • It costs $100 and does not fit the S26 Ultra’s pen slot.
  • Offline finding must be enabled before the pen goes missing.

Explained simply

The S Pen is a stylus used with some Samsung Galaxy phones and tablets, including the Galaxy S26 Ultra. It can be used to write or draw on the screen, and some versions connect to a phone using Bluetooth.

Samsung’s SmartThings Find is a service for locating supported devices and accessories. Location tracking depends on the specific S Pen model: Bluetooth alone does not mean a pen can be found through the service.

The S Pen Pro is sold separately and is the only S Pen Samsung officially supports for location tracking through SmartThings Find. Its location can be relayed by nearby participating Galaxy devices when the required settings are enabled.
