As if the injury descriptions weren’t already ghastly enough in Dwarf Fortress, the legendary outpost builder is getting a “meat biome”
Bay 12 co-founder Tarn Adams says Dwarf Fortress may gain an underground “meat biome”, filled with terrain made of muscle, bone, sinew and other flesh. The idea suits the game’s famously gruesome world, but no release date has been given.
Adams shared the plans in a forum discussion about the game’s ongoing development, so they remain tentative. Players could mine the meat for resources; rivers of blood or other fluids would depend on a future fluid update, and the biome is not expected to contain meat trees or animated flesh. Bay 12 is also planning a crystal biome, while much of the discussion focused on future changes to magic.
In short
- Dwarf Fortress may add an underground biome made of flesh and bone.
- Players could mine its meat terrain for resources.
- No release date has been announced, and plans remain tentative.
Explained simply
Dwarf Fortress is a construction and management game in which players guide a group of dwarves as they build and run an underground settlement. Its detailed simulation can produce graphic accounts of injuries and other hazards, and players gather materials from the world around them.
The game is made by Bay 12 Games, co-founded by Tarn Adams. Its developers discuss possible additions while work continues, so ideas raised in those discussions may change before they become part of the game.
