Over a decade later, Bloodborne remains so popular it reportedly sold a quarter of a million copies this year alone
Bloodborne reportedly sold more than 251,000 copies this year, showing that demand for FromSoftware’s PlayStation action RPG remains strong more than a decade after its release. Its continued popularity comes amid fan calls for a remake or updated version, neither of which has materialised.
Alinea Analytics analyst Rhys Elliott estimates total sales at 10.4 million copies, generating $317 million (about £236 million) in revenue. He also said more than 500,000 people played the game through PlayStation Plus in October; among them, 12 per cent also played Elden Ring, 6 per cent Dark Souls 3 and 5 per cent Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. The game remains a PS4 exclusive, with only backwards compatibility and smoother frame pacing on PS5; a reported remake pitch from Bluepoint did not proceed.
In short
- Bloodborne reportedly sold 251,000 copies this year.
- Estimated lifetime sales have reached 10.4 million.
- Fans still await a remake or substantial upgrade.
Explained simply
Bloodborne is an action role-playing game made by Japanese studio FromSoftware and released for PlayStation 4 in 2015. Players explore a plague-struck city, fighting monsters and learning how its world works; the game is known for demanding combat and a dark, gothic setting.
Sony published the game, which remains exclusive to PlayStation consoles. It runs on PlayStation 5 through backwards compatibility, but has not received a version designed specifically for newer hardware. FromSoftware is also known for games such as Dark Souls, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and Elden Ring.
Fans have called for a remake or updated release, but no such version has been announced. The game's lasting audience matters to its publisher and developer as they consider where players may find it and what versions might be made available in future.
