Explained simply
Scarlet Morning is a fantasy adventure novel by ND Stevenson, published in 2025 for middle-grade readers. It follows two orphans who join a pirate crew in an effort to save Dickerson’s Sea, after waiting for their parents to return.
Stevenson is also known for Nimona, which was adapted into an Oscar-nominated animated film. The planned film brings together director and co-writer Kate Herron, whose work includes television, and producer Roy Lee, alongside other producers and writers.
The story’s themes of family, loyalty and adventure sit within a fantasy setting built around pirates and the sea. A film adaptation would bring the book to a wider audience, though it remains in development and no release date has been announced.
