COD: Modern Warfare 4 DMZ patch has nerfed UAV Towers so you’re not immediately visible everywhere you go
Developing story first seen 3 hours ago
Infinity Ward has changed how UAV Towers appear in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4’s DMZ mode, making them less common and removing the guarantee that every point of interest contains one. The change targets a tactic that let aggressive players quickly reveal opponents across the map, including near extraction areas, and could make it harder to set traps.
The hotfix cuts tower spawns by 40 per cent, randomises their locations and prevents multiple towers appearing in the same area, except in Deadtown, where progression requires them. A character trait can still keep tower scans active for an entire match; Infinity Ward says the Sedative Inhaler will counter those upgraded towers in a later Season 1 update. For now, the inhaler’s duration has doubled from 60 to 120 seconds.

Steelman: both sides, in good faith
The strongest fair case each way — we don't pick a winner.
The case for
Reducing UAV Tower spawns and making their locations less predictable can give players more room to move, loot and approach extraction without being repeatedly exposed to opponents. That may make encounters feel less predetermined and reward a wider range of tactics, while the longer-lasting Sedative Inhaler offers some immediate counterplay.
The case against
UAV Towers give players information that can help them avoid ambushes, pursue objectives and make informed choices in a mode where losing a fight can be costly. Making towers scarcer and random may reduce that useful counterplay and make matches feel more dependent on chance; players may also reasonably question the balance while the inhaler cannot yet counter upgraded scans.
Explained simply
Call of Duty is a series of military-themed video games, and DMZ is a mode where players explore a map, complete tasks and try to leave with what they have collected. Players can encounter one another as well as computer-controlled opponents, so knowing where other players are can affect whether they fight, hide or head for an exit.
UAV Towers are map features that scan nearby areas and reveal opponents to players. They can be especially useful to teams looking for a fight, while making it harder for others to move unseen or prepare an ambush. Infinity Ward is the studio behind the game; changes to the towers affect how much information players can gather and how they approach the map.
