31 dead, dozens missing after Russian strike on Ukrainian aid site
Developing story first seen 4 hours ago
More than 45 people remain missing after a Russian strike hit an aid facility and shelter in Komyshuvakha, southern Ukraine, where at least 31 people were killed. Rescuers continued searching the rubble, and the region declared three days of mourning; the dead included four police officers and two rescue workers.
The strike was part of a wider overnight barrage across nine Ukrainian regions, as Kyiv prepared for US-brokered peace talks on 10 and 11 November in Abu Dhabi. President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russia launched 289 drones, 17 ballistic missiles and 59 cruise missiles. Other attacks damaged power plants and hospitals; at least 62 people were wounded in Kharkiv, and 200 patients were moved to other medical facilities.

Explained simply
Komyshuvakha is in southern Ukraine, a region exposed to attacks during Russia’s full-scale invasion, which began in 2022. Aid facilities provide support to civilians affected by the fighting, while shelters offer protection during air raids.
Ukraine is led by President Volodymyr Zelensky; Russia’s president is Vladimir Putin. The war has caused widespread civilian deaths and damage to homes, hospitals and essential services, including electricity.
The United States has been involved in efforts to bring the two countries into peace talks. Any negotiations face major questions about security, territory and the terms of a possible settlement.
