Upcoming indie RTS DORF aims to solve “the Command and Conquer problem” with infantry, by looking to Menace
DORFteam is redesigning how infantry responds to fire in its upcoming real-time strategy game, DORF, to avoid a weakness it sees in classic Command and Conquer games. The update borrows from the suppression system in Menace, aiming to make infantry vulnerable to pressure without letting machine guns and explosives wipe out whole squads too easily.
Under the planned system, suppression affects an entire squad, slowing movement and reducing accuracy while improving protection; machine guns remain useful against infantry. DORFteam also outlined automatic squad reinforcements funded by recruit resources, with nearby buildings replenishing losses, and plans to limit this through smaller ranges and storage. The update mentions squad leaders inspired by Company of Heroes, plus new units including a deployable Empire machine gunner.
In short
- DORF is developing a squad-wide infantry suppression system inspired by Menace.
- Suppression slows and weakens infantry while offering increased protection.
- Recruit buildings and squad leaders are also planned features.
